Mind Connections is passionate about social responsibility and very proud of its long term partnership agreement with the Positive Vibes Foundation. As partners Mind Connections agreed to provide in-kind donations approved by the Board of Directors of the Positive Vibes Foundation. These include limited administrative and secretarial services, use of facilities such as office space, conference rooms and limited Information Technology services. Mind Connections Specialist team are enthusiastic and committed to community based prevention activities and activities which reduce the stigma attached to mental illness. We provide voluntary specialist psychiatric services to foundation programs.
Positive Vibes Foundation is a much needed charity organisation to support the mental health needs of those living in the Hills community.
Positive Vibes Foundation Ltd has been a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) since the 1st January 2015. We aim to raise awareness of mental health issues, reducing the stigma associated with it, amongst the Hills Shire Community.
Due to the onset of mental illness often occurring when young people are in their prime, removing this stigma and raising awareness enables early intervention, support and treatment.
Although there are many service providers and significant government funding invested into mental health, many people are still unsure how to access these services when they need them or experience difficulties in doing so. To address this, we invite local mental health organisations to showcase their services at our Positive Vibes fund raising events, where members of the community have the opportunity to learn about mental illness, preventative strategies, and local, state and national services available to them. Community participation at these events promotes a positive image for mental health in a fun and entertaining manner.
Positive Vibes Foundation hosts two annual signature events since establishment in 2015. Pawsitive Steps towards mental Health Walk and Well-being Expo in August and a Masquerade Ball in October each year. Money raised goes towards early recognition and early intervention programs of mental illnesses, youth focused educational and treatment programs, whilst also creating awareness and reducing the stigma attached to mental illness. Mind Connections is proud to be a major partner of the Positive Vibes Foundation.
Mind Connections is a major partner of this event since it commenced in 2011 by a spirited group of volunteers focused on improving the physical and mental wellbeing of the individual. Pawsitive Steps is unique because it involves man’s best friend, our pet dogs. Pets help to break down barriers and teach us to develop positive bonds and relationships. It is a fun filled day that includes walks with our pets and other exercises organised by health and fitness professionals. This holistic approach reinforces the concept of “Health Body, Healthy Mind”.
It is also a day that family and friends, carers, individuals from many walks of life, service providers, government and non-government organisations and our pet dogs, all join forces to support those suffering from mental illness. These health service providers and organisations have stalls on the day offering help, education and advice. There are even stalls and events for your pet dogs’ entertainment and wellbeing.
The family atmosphere and bonding through our pets create a relaxed, non-stigmatizing environment where we can openly talk about mental health issues.
Pawsitive Steps is now an annual event in the Hills Shire on the last Sunday of August and was a finalist in the 2016 Australia Day Hills Community Project of the Year award. Mind Connections is a proud partner of this exciting event which is hosted by the Positive Vibes Foundation.
The mask we wear at the Masquerade Ball symbolises the mask we often hide behind when confronted with mental illness, either as a sufferer or an observer, and represents the stigma associated with mental illness. At each Masquerade Ball, we invite a prominent person in society who has overcome, or has had experience in dealing with, mental illness. Their talk is inspirational and provides an opportunity to learn from their story.
At the end of the Masquerade Ball, we remove our masks, symbolizing the lifting of the stigma. Mind Connections is a proud partner of this exciting event which is hosted by the Positive Vibes Foundation.
