What is Telehealth
Telehealth is an Australian government initiative which allows video consultations with our professionals for members in the community in rural, remote and outer metropolitan area from your local GP practice. The use of online consultations will, in many cases, provide patients in these areas with access to specialists sooner and without the time and expense involved in travelling to major cities.
This initiative is intended to address some of the barriers in accessing medical services.
How do I organise Telehealth with Mind Connections
- Firstly, you need to check if you are eligible for Telehealth Service from the following link – Telehealth
- Contact our staff on 02 9871 7777 to find out if your local GP Practice is equipped for Telehealth
- You need to obtain a referral letter from your GP and fill in the required registration and consent forms
- Our staff will book an appointment for you and give instructions to your GP Practice
- Reply back to the “SMS” we send you to confirm appointment. Generally, this is sent 48 hours prior to your consultation.
Do I have to pay out of pocket
If you live in Telehealth eligible regional or rural rears (RA2 or above layers) your consultation fees are covered by Medicare for the consultation with Psychiatrist and Geriatricians. Please check if you are eligible for Telehealth services under the government initiative using the link below. If you are eligible, you need to assign the Medicare benefit directly to the professional and we will submit the invoice directly to Medicare as a bulk billing service on your behalf – Telehealth
Our Psychiatrists and Psychologist provide Telehealth consultations to many patients who live in Metropolitan areas and who do not want to come to the practice frequently . These services are privately billed and not claimable from Medicare.
On the day of the consultation
Make sure you arrive to your Telehealth consultation at your GP practice on time. They will ensure an internet connection, webcam and Skype is ready to go. If we have a problem due to unforeseen circumstances, our staff will contact the practice at the scheduled time.
Can my GP attend the Telehealth consultation
Yes. Most of the time someone will accompany you when attending your consultation. We encourage you to invite your GP to the session. Your doctor must also check with Medicare for GP practice eligibility. Please encourage your GP to contact Mind Connections by phone or e-mail.
Can I book multiple appointments
Yes, you can. Your GP and Mind Connections professional will let you know the frequency of your appointments. Then we will schedule these appointments in for you.
What happens if I cannot attend my appointment or need to reschedule
We encourage all patients to be mindful if they need to cancel or reschedule a telehealth consultation. You will need to let your local GP know or by replying to the “SMS” we send you. Due to the demand of this service please let us know as early as possible.
